Billie Eilish is honest about how she makes friends with Tourette’s syndrome and how people usually react to her tics

Twenty-year-old Billie Eilish grew up in front of the world as the singer’s popularity continued to rise, between her chart-topping music, the Academy Award winning James Bond song and even more recently get her own Simpsons short. With that, Eilish used her platform to talk about body image, climate change, encourage young people to vote, and in a recent interview with David Letterman, she opened up about Tourette’s syndrome.

During her 45-minute chat with the former late-night host on Netflix My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David LettermanThe conversation naturally arose when one of Eilish’s tics caused Letterman to initially ask her if she was okay. The couple got into a discussion about her experience with Tourette’s syndrome, which she was diagnosed with at the age of eleven. In her words on the Netflix series:

I actually like answering questions about this topic because it is very interesting and I am very confused about it and don’t understand it [Laughs]…I never get punished at all, because the tics that I do constantly throughout the day are like, rock my ears back and forth, raise my eyebrows, press my jaw and do that, I like my arm here, I flex this arm, I flex this muscle. These are things you would never have noticed if you were just having a conversation with me. But for me, it’s very stressful.
